- An Owlet smart sock is a monitor that uses proven technology to inform us about a baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels. It uses a special sock placed on the baby’s foot to obtain data. It’s a solution designed for parents of infants and one-year-olds who feel the need to control their baby’s health when they are not together.
- Keeping the fabric sock clean helps maintain its function, provides comfort for a baby, and ensures we avoid skin irritation caused by a soiled fabric sock and a sensor. So wash Owlet socks in cool or lukewarm water every week and remember always to take the sensor out while doing it. After washing, hang the fabric socks until they get completely dry.
- Below, we’re sharing simple tips about washing the sock by Owlet and dealing with sock sensor. Keep reading to be prepared for everything!

What is Owlet Smart Sock?
It’s a measuring tool, a baby monitor that doesn’t include video or audio, created by the brand in 2012.
It’s light-aquamarine colored with an owl picture on.
With Smart Sock 2, or its newer 3rd version, you can monitor a baby’s performance during the day and night.
The whole thing comprises a fabric sock and an Owlet base station, also known as a base unit.

When it comes to the fabric sock
- in Smart Sock 2, it comes in three sizes: 6-8 lbs, 8-14 lbs, and 14-25 lbs,
- in Smart Sock 3, it comes in two sizes: up to 12 lbs and 12-30 lbs;
There are right and left versions in each size.
The tool uses infrared sock light to track an infant’s heart rate and blood oxygen level.
As a rule of thumb, an Owlet is designed to be worn during the first year of a kid’s life, but many parents continue to use it up until 18 months or so.

To use Owlet sock, simply pair a fabric sock to a base station and strap the sock to your baby’s foot.
The sensor will operate close to your baby’s body to send you crucial information about their health.
Owlet socks are confirmed to work, but as for now, “There is no evidence that these monitors are useful in the reduction of SIDS in healthy infants,” says Gina Robinson, MD, a pediatrician at Cleveland Clinic. (Parents)

Important: Owlet Baby Care, Inc. will discontinue selling its popular Smart Sock product after receiving a warning letter from the Food and Drug Administration. (Whsv)
Cleaning Owlet Sock
Since an item has a sensor, some people ask if it’s washable.
Well, that’s a smart thing to think about!

While the base station should be completely dry at all times, a sock fabric should be hand washed regularly despite the sock electronics.
To avoid skin irritation from sweat, lotion, dirt, etc., gently handwash your baby’s sock once a week using cool to lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
Remember that washing your infant’s sock will make it last longer and be more comfortable to wear. Your child’s foot will be grateful!

Here’s how to wash it successfully:
Remove your Smart Sock sensor
To remove the sensor from the Owlet sock, press the base station button two times quickly. It will chirp two times in return. It means that the sensor is unpaired from the base station—the sock light on the bottom of the base station will not be illuminated.
Take the sensor off when you’re about to wash a soiled fabric sock.
Ensure that the sock sensor is out. Be sure to remove it as it cannot get wet under any circumstances. The sensor should always be completely dry; otherwise, it can stop working.
Important: Never submerge any electronic devices.

Handwash in warm water
After you’ve taken the sensor out, grab your child’s fabric sock and gently hand wash it in warm water using a mild detergent.
Tip: Avoid washing the sock with the wrong soap, and watch out for not rinsing it out well. It’s better to rinse an Owlet sock too much than not enough. Soapy remains could cause burns on the baby’s feet, so rinse it well to avoid skin irritation caused by chemicals.

Air-dry the fabric sock
After washing, make sure that the fabric sock gets completely dry before using it again.
Owlet suggests putting it on an indoor clothing line in front of a fan. It should take about an hour for the item to completely dry. So just hang the fabric socks and wait.
Important: Don’t put your Owlet Sock in the dryer, as the intense heat could wrap its inner components.
